Dr. Edgar Dullni
Name: Dr. Edgar Dullni

Edgar Dullni was born in Rheinhausen, Germany, is married with two children and lives in Ratingen, Germany.
He is member of the VDE, the German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies and of the DPG, the German Physical Society.
He graduated at the Ruhr-University of Bochum from the Institute of Experimental Physics in 1978 with the emphasis on plasma physics. He obtained his Ph.D. from the same institution in 1983 with a thesis on the determination of the flux density of sputtered Titanium from pure and oxidized surfaces using laser-induced fluorescence.
In 1985, he joined the ABB research centre in Baden, Switzerland, where he researched the physics of vacuum interrupters for medium voltage applications. This work was continued when he moved to ABB Calor Emag Mittelspannungs GmbH in Ratingen, Germany, in 1988. Since 1992, he managed the development of medium voltage vacuum circuit breakers and introduced a new magnetically actuated drive. He has also been involved in the development of vacuum interrupters, has published widely in these fields and has been granted more than 10 German and international patents. He is, at present, responsible for the world-wide coordination of type testing of Medium Voltage products launched by ABB Power Technologies Division.

He is a member of the permanent scientific committee of the International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum (ISDEIV), member of the Current Zero Club since 1988, and the present chairman of the Sub Committee on Switchgear Assemblies of DKE, the German Committee of Electrotechnics. In addition, he is active in working groups and task forces of CIGRE and IEC.
