Satoru Yanabu was born in Gotsu, Japan, on July 15,1941 and lives in Tokyo,Japan.
He was FREng of Royal Academy of Engineering in UK
Member of Academy of Engineering in Japan, IEEE Fellow, IEE (UK) Fellow and CE, Chairman of Current Zero Club (CIGRE).
Member of IEE of Japan, Chairman of Gas Discharge Institute in Japan, Chairman of IEE Japan Center(UK), Member of Electric Application in Japan, International Member of International Conference of Gas Discharge and Their Application, International Member of International Symposium on Gaseous Dielectric and International Member of International Symposium on Discharge and Insulation in Vacuum.

He graduated from Tokyo University for BE of Electrical Engineer, PhD from Liverpool University, and he earned Dr. Eng. degree from Tokyo University.

He joined to Toshiba and worked for development of high voltage engineering equipment such as SF6 gas circuit breaker, vacuum circuit breaker, gas insulated switchgear, gas and oil insulated transformer and surge arrester.
Among these developments, axial magnetic field electrode was one of success and this electrode is now a typical electrode of vacuum circuit breaker in the world. This development was connected to realization of 200 kA vacuum circuit breaker and 24 kV-100 kA DC circuit breaker with multi frequency operation for nuclear fusion experiment. He also developed SF6 gas circuit breaker and he developed 550kV-63kA one break circuit breaker and this circuit breakers are being operated in Japanese system. Also he developed 1,000kV UHV substation equipment and 500kV DC gas insulated converter station in Japan.

He left from Toshiba and presently is working in Tokyo Denki University as a professor.
He received Dyke Awards of International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum, Significant Technical Contributor of Japanese Government, two Significant Development Awards from IEE of Japan ,one Technical Book Award from IEE of Japan and three Technical Paper Awards from IEE of Japan.
